There’s something special about choosing an engagement session location that already feels like a place you’d want to spend an afternoon together. For this Charlotte engagement session, we photographed around Bloom & Bottle in Plaza Midwood, using the warm light, greenery, and character of the neighborhood as the backdrop.

The whole session felt warm and personal. We started inside Bloom & Bottle, letting the light coming through the windows create some really beautiful, intimate moments. From there, we moved outside for a few portraits around the patio and neighborhood. Some of my favorite photographs ended up being the simplest ones—a hand on the table, a kiss between conversations, or the way they naturally looked at each other.

I think engagement photos are at their best when there’s room for your personality to come through. You don’t have to spend the entire session thinking about where your hands should go or whether you’re standing the “right” way.

I’ll always give direction when it’s needed, but I also like to leave space for things to happen naturally. That balance creates photographs that feel polished and intentional while still looking like you.

This Plaza Midwood session was a perfect example. The photographs have an editorial feel, but there are also plenty of candid moments woven throughout the gallery. Nothing feels overly staged or disconnected from who they are together.

Plaza Midwood is such a good engagement photo location in Charlotte because there’s so much variety within a small area. You can move between intimate indoor spaces, patios, greenery, neighborhood streets, and some of Charlotte’s more recognizable architecture without spending your session driving from location to location.

It’s especially beautiful for couples who want their Charlotte engagement photos to feel modern and a little different from the traditional park or garden session.
